About the Journal

Law, markets and infrastructure in the age of financial technology

Prometeus is a journal of financial technology dedicated to rigorous, long-form analysis at the intersection of finance, law, and institutional change.

Mission

Prometeus was founded on the conviction that financial technology deserves more than enthusiasm. The changes now underway in markets, payments infrastructure, asset management, and regulatory frameworks are profound and lasting — and they require the kind of sustained analytical attention that neither the trade press nor the academic journal has consistently provided.

The journal publishes essays and commentary on digital assets, artificial intelligence, market regulation, financial infrastructure, cyber resilience, and the institutional architecture of innovation. Its scope is deliberately broad, because the most consequential questions at the frontier of financial technology do not sit neatly within any single discipline. They are simultaneously legal, economic, technical, and political.

Prometeus is not an advocacy publication. It does not promote any technology, market participant, or regulatory outcome. Its editorial standard is analytical sobriety: the willingness to follow an argument wherever the evidence leads, to acknowledge uncertainty, and to distinguish between what is happening and what observers would like to happen.

“A sober and analytical editorial space for long-form writing at the intersection of finance, technology and regulation.”

What we cover

The journal’s coverage is organised around the core areas where technology is reshaping the foundations of finance. These are not topics defined by market cycles or regulatory fashions, but by the structural questions they raise about how financial systems are built, governed, and held accountable.

Tokenization & DLT

How distributed ledger technology is altering issuance, settlement, and the architecture of market infrastructure.

Artificial Intelligence

The transition from AI as a productivity tool to AI as an operational actor in financial workflows and market structure.

Regulation & Policy

How international standard setters, central banks, and legislators are responding to systemic change in financial technology.

Payments & Infrastructure

The evolution of payment systems, central bank digital currencies, and the institutional plumbing of modern finance.

Editorial standards

Every piece published in Prometeus is reviewed by the editorial board before acceptance. We look for three qualities above all others: analytical rigour, meaning that claims are grounded in evidence and argument rather than assertion; intellectual honesty, meaning that complexity and uncertainty are acknowledged rather than papered over; and relevance, meaning that the piece addresses a question that matters to practitioners, policymakers, or researchers working at the frontier of financial technology.

Prometeus is an open-access publication. All essays are freely available at prometeusjournal.eu. Authors retain copyright over their work and grant Prometeus a non-exclusive licence to publish.
